Incidence of Long Hours Worked

The percentage of workers who work forty hours or more per week range from a low of 23 percent in France to a high of 80 percent in Luxembourg. Canada, with 54 percent of workers reporting working 40 hours or more per week, is in the middle of the pack among the 17 countries studied. In comparison, almost 77 percent of workers in the U.S. work 40 hours or more per week. Data on workers who work 40 hours or more per week are not available from the OECD database by gender, age, or employee status of worker (see Sources and Technical Information).
