Notes: The Labour Force Survey (LFS) is a monthly survey that provides estimates of employment and unemployment. LFS data are used to produce standard labour market indicators such as the unemployment rate, employment rate, and the participation rate. The LFS also provides employment estimates by industry, occupation, public and private sector, hours worked and much more, all cross-classifiable by a variety of demographic characteristics. Estimates are produced for Canada, the provinces, and a large number of sub-provincial regions.

The target population of the LFS covers the civilian, non-institutionalized population 15 years of age and over. Excluded from the survey's coverage are residents of the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, persons living on Indian Reserves, full-time members of the Canadian Armed Forces and inmates of institutions. These groups together represent an exclusion of less than 2 percent of the population aged 15 and over.
