Personally Rewarding Work


While a great deal of research has examined the most visible features of jobs – pay, hours, the physical work environment, health and safety – less is known about qualitative aspects of a job that, at the end of the day, leave people feeling fulfilled and personally rewarded. Many Canadians say that the content of their job – such as performing interesting tasks - are among the most important factors that add up to a good job. What precisely do Canadians say is important in a job? How do men and women differ in what they value most in a job? Do younger people – sometimes referred to as members of ‘GenX’ or the ‘Nexus generation’ - express different attitudes than their older workers about what they feel is important in a job?
